Bridgewater Insurance Agency Limited has a long standing history of service in the local area. The company’s roots began with the acquisition of RE Carey Insurance Ltd in 1983; an expansion of an already successful insurance franchise. In July of 1985, Bruce Lipsett, our current President, joined RE Carey Insurance Ltd as a partner and moved his family to Bridgewater. Bruce, a native of Saint John, New Brunswick, had spent ten years in the insurance business prior to his arrival. Two years were spent as an independent adjuster for Gorman Cain Adjusters in Fredericton, NB, and the remaining eight in claims and marketing with Royal Insurance Canada in their branch offices in Fredericton, NB, Saint John, NB, and Halifax, NS.

In the fall of 1986, RE Carey Insurance Agency Ltd. became Bridgewater Insurance Agency Ltd; a company then with a staff of two that was slated for growth and prosperity in the changing insurance marketplace. In May of 1998, Bruce Lipsett acquired the remaining shares in the company and became the sole owner of the company.

In July of 2000, Bridgewater Insurance Agency Ltd joined with a group of like minded professional brokers to form I.I.B.I., Independent Insurance Brokers Inc. This business opportunity allowed us to further expand our services to meet the insurance needs of our clients, by providing even more choice of insurance providers and products.

Today, Bridgewater Insurance Agency Ltd has a staff compliment of eight, and is well positioned for growth moving forward. Over the years, our commitment to operational efficiencies, staff development, and customer service has allowed us to achieve significant milestones in our business. In just the past seven years, we have tripled our volume of business, and we are still growing. With our 20 year history of serving insurance consumers in and outside Lunenburg County, we have the commitment and drive necessary to move our business forward.
